NCA...

...is perhaps the Chinese version of the YBAs of the 90's. Although there have been a few articles et al on the new art movement in China, I came across one of the most striking images over the weekend. The painting is a fusion of Duchamp's 'Fountain' and a picture of Chairman Mao. The result is fantastic, particularly due to my secret love of Warhol's paintings and prints. It reminds the viewer of Warhol at once, but this is no 'icon' of Mao, it is a painting of something that never happened. Mao seemes to be lit by the work, and the stooges behind him seem to be gazing in wonder. Although they are well out of my price range ($20,000 at least) I would love some of Shi Xinning's work.
